“GOBBLE, GOBBLE, DEATH & TROUBLE”
He was world-renowned for his gourmet turkey dinners. Chef and restaurant owner Ramsey Gordon attracted food aficionados from everywhere to his fine-dining establishment, “The Golden Gobbler.” Known to be a tyrant of a boss and an ill-mannered business associate, his recipe for turkey has remained a secret for years, despite the protestations of those who proclaim that the ingredients and formula for such a succulent dish should be shared with everyone.
Last night, Gordon’s restaurant was to have been jam-packed with hungry customers, waiting for the chance to devour his famous main course. Yet, it was not to be. The famished fowl feasters were unexpectedly told the sad news that Gordon was dead, the victim of an unfortunate accident. For earlier yesterday, while lighting his personal oven – the one only he was allowed to use – an explosion rocked the restaurant, putting an untimely end to the career of the duke of the drumstick. The circumstances were suspicious enough that authorities investigated and proclaimed the death to be not an accident, but a well-calculated homicide.

Who would have done away with the wizard of the white meat with Thanksgiving in the air? And what of the secret recipe? Was it written down and stored in a safe spot, or would it vanish from the earth forever? Would “The Golden Gobbler” remain at the top of the restaurant heap or would Gordon’s death signal the end of a legendary gastronomic treat? Only sound logic and expert sleuthing skills would solve the case and ensure that no clues would be left over.

SUSPECTS:

Halliday Feast
Rival restaurateur. Gordon worked for Feast until starting his own restaurant three year ago. Feast’s clientele has slowly been moving its patronage to the “The Golden Gobbler.”

Sue Shafinski
The sous chef. Sue was hand-picked by Gordon to be his number two at the restaurant. She and Gordon have had several loud arguments that could be heard throughout the restaurant.

Gabby Goble
Turkey farmer. He’s been supplying turkeys to “The Golden Gobbler” since Gordon opened the doors of the restaurant. Lately, Gordon has been questioning the quality of his birds.

Thomasina Torquay
Author of “The Tantamount Turkey Cookbook.” She guaranteed to her publisher that Gordon’s turkey recipe would be in the next edition of her cookbook, scheduled for release next year.

Grant Barry Soose
Maitre’d. He’s worked for some of the finest restaurants in the area and adds a touch of class to the establishment, but has never before received the type of abuse leveled at him by Gordon.

Winifred Nerry
Owner of Mayflower Vineyards. “The Golden Gobbler” has been featuring her wines on the menu. Rumor has it that Gordon had struck a deal with another wine producer.

DISAPPEARANCE OF DEATH
Last night, The Great Radinski, world-renowned magician and entertainer to royalty, returned to his home on Mystic Lake to perform before a Halloween costume party of friends, relatives and admirers at the nearby Mystic Inn. As he amazed the crowd with incredible illusions and magic tricks that defied explanation, he suddenly looked at his pocket watch and realized he was late for an important “appointment.” He disappeared in a cloud of smoke as individuals in the crowd looked at each other in disbelief.
Fifteen minutes later, a muffled explosion was heard and police arrived to inform everyone that Radinski was dead. His body was found along the shore of the lake. He had been killed by an explosive device. Only through careful questioning and expert sleuthing would motive and murderer emerge.
More about The Great Radinski:
A little over a week ago, The Great Radinski had returned home from a triumphant tour of Asia and Europe where he had appeared before packed houses in major cities. European newspapers reported that, in Prague and Budapest, the magician had received death threats in the form of letters that were sent to his dressing rooms. Both letters are in the hands of European authorities, undergoing analysis.
Radinski’s fame was assured in 1993 when, live on a BBC broadcast, he made London’s Tower Bridge and St. Paul Cathedral disappear, then reappear ten minutes later. It is considered by many to be the greatest illusion ever performed. For years, it had been rumored that Radinski stole the trick from another magician. Those allegations have never been proven.
Born in Poland as Igor Radinski, he had emigrated with his parents to Mystic Lake. It’s said that he also had psychic powers and may have left documents that would help pinpoint the name of the culprit who committed the murder.

EVIL NEVER DIES
He was called Evil-Eyed Emil. When he looked at people with his infamous right eye, so the story went, bad things invariably happened. Townspeople cringed and covered their faces as Emil came near, not daring to look directly into his ominous orb. And, as he was being driven out of Reaper Junction on Halloween night exactly 100 years ago, Emil vowed to return one day to wreak his vengeance on the mob and its progeny for the way he had been so rudely tossed out.
That cryptic curse was all but forgotten by today’s generation of Reapers who laughed at such nonsense. But, the laughter has stopped. For last night, shockingly and unexpectedly, a local resident staggered into the town square and announced that Emil had been sighted in the woods and, true to his century-old proclamation, someone had been the victim of Emil’s anger.
The deceased was Grimsby Graves, the patriarch of a family whose ancestors had helped found Reaper Junction in 1770. The Graves seemed to have had their fingers in every pie that was ever baked in Reaper Junction. The history books say that it was, in fact, the Graves brothers who had led the torch- lit mob that oversaw Emil’s abrupt exit into the stormy night.
So, how then can justice be done? How can someone who is already dead be brought to trial? And, can the court truly find a jury of his “peers?” Or, will the explanation be less scintillating and more sinister? Could someone have used Emil as a scapegoat to cover a homicide that was well planned and willingly perpetrated by an Emil imposter?
